Over the years it has become easier to understand that we need to be our best for ourselves. We also need to be our best for others who depend on us. They need us to be there for them when they need us. When we are not caring for ourselves, we don’t always realize our needs. We must make sure we are in our best mental faculty. This is important when others depend on us to be our best selves and do what is expected of us.
I have compromised my mental health for far too long. I did not understand how important it is not only to me but also to those around me. I know there are times when I need to support others. I also need to tolerate things that others want to do. Knowing that I am taking care of myself makes it easier to handle things that are unpleasant. Not caring for my mental health can compromise my ability to deal with challenging situations.
I am not in my best self. This puts me at risk for not withstanding unexpected events. These incidents can happen from time to time without notice. It can cause me to react in inappropriate ways. I do not conduct myself in ways needed to manage the many obstacles in my life now. I know the importance of caring for my mental health. It helps me stay flexible with events that cross my path. Otherwise, I would be irritated. This would make things more difficult for those who do not expect such a reaction from me.
In the end, it means recognizing the importance of caring for my mental health. I need to do this in the way that suits me. It is not selfish for one reason or another. I know that I am my best self when I care for myself in the way that I need to. I am the person that everyone knows I can be. They do not have to tip-toe around, wondering if I will erupt into an explosive state. I want to care for myself to be my best. The outside world expects me to be my best self just as much. It is something that is deserved too.
It can be hard to decipher what is right and what is wrong. It can also be hard to understand that you have to admit when you have done wrong. The best course of action is to care for yourself in the best way possible. That even means that if you need to take a step aside then you do it. There is no shame in ever caring for your mental health in the way that you need to.
Others want you to be your best. They expect you to always do what is right for you, no matter what it takes. Sometimes, admitting you need to do what is best can be hard. Eventually, you will feel good about yourself. You will do what is right not only for you but for everyone around you.
