For a long time, I have never really realized the power of my words or even my thoughts for that matter how they can make an impact on my mental health or other along with making myself not the person that everyone has come to know. I know that I must do better when it comes to restraining my thoughts or opinions, while understanding reality and realizing that it is best to be kind to myself and others in the process.

Many times,  as in the fashion of autistic people like me, I often say what is transpiring in my thoughts without considering how things can make others feel. In some situations, all that those affected want is to feel welcomed and not alienated or ostracized for what they must undergo as in many cases they have no say in what they must go so. Acting in my fashion, saying things, without filter or thinking of the power or weight of our word choice can be hurtful or discerning in many ways.

To a degree was as autistic people, myself included say what is on our minds because there is an emotional weight that we are caring for, or we are a stickler for what should be without understanding that there are things that are out of our control, and we must respect the authority that directives are given. Maybe what is going on doesn’t really affect us but there is a passion to make our stance known on things, Respectful dialogue can be had, but acting in a manner that is unbecoming of ourselves is totally inappropriate.

Yes, being autistic has its challenges and sometimes it makes us step outside of our comfort zone and have to do things that we may not enjoy. It may cause our routine to be changed, which can also be irritating. Over the decades I have learned to become more flexible with situations as they arise. There can be thoughts of eliminating those that irritate us or make our lives more challenging, but then there are also many instances where we as autistic individuals been in compromising situations and at one time were bullied or felt to made inferior. Yet, it has always been instilled in me that I am to never allow myself to believe that I am better than anyone else. As challenging as it can be to remember that we all come from different walks of life, it is just as important to be kind as we may never know what someone is experiencing in their journey that day.

It can be hard at times to hold a moral compass in certain circumstances when there is a sense of comfort, and the social expectations are relaxed. However, in reality there should be the same regard for things being the way that they are regardless of what situation you are in or who is affected by it. Many times things happen because it is out of control of others and they too are also only following directions that are given to them.

In a world where you can do anything, what it is important to remember is that it is best to be kind to others regardless of what the thoughts that you are experiencing may be.
