In life there are choices that need to be made. For the neurodiverse community, the ability to make those choices can be challenging because our brains want to do the things that we want sometimes, even if it may not be the right thing to do. Occasionally, by making the right choices, we will see that making the right choice is simply fine.
There can be many reasons that our brains may not want to make the right choice. Factors like anxiety or other challenges can come into play when making these choices to the point that it wants us to not make the right choices. Many times, the neurodiverse brain will overthink the negatives of making choices that in the end are good for us.
What we at times cannot see is the fact that sometimes-making decisions that are consequential have a negative effect on us in end. While we may see that making a decision that will continue to make us calmer and more able to regulate or even happier, in the end we know that if this decision will be able to make us more regulated in the end, then it is more beneficial to do what is needed because it benefits more than ourselves.
While we may initially think that by making a choice that is going to set us up for failure by allowing us to be at a point where we could miss out on something because it may have been at a point where it was not at a point where we would have liked it to been, like putting our mood at a better ability to regulate or the fact that we may oversleep or something of that nature. We do not see and understand that it is OK sometimes if we prepare ourselves in the ways that we need to be ready to be agile and learn that we are properly regulated to start the day.
Because past instances of making the right decision were at times not as successful, we do not realize that there were other past instances that may have come into play to make that instance more challenging than what the upcoming one may have been. There must be an understanding among yourself that everything is going to be OK with the decision that you are going to make if you properly prepare yourself for the future activities that it involves.
There are times when the neurodiverse brain overthinks, making decisions where it rules out all the things that they dislike about it. But if in the end it is something that keeps them regulated and more able to navigate the world, then it is something that must be done for them to be successful.
