It is often proven that you can never see anyone push through the hardest of times than an autistic person. The world is not made for autistic people to thrive in. Despite this, you will never see as determined a group as autistic people. They push through and work hard to do what they need to exist in this world. It doesn’t always mean that it is easy. Still, we do it because we often know that giving up is never a choice.
I will admit that there can be times when it is especially difficult to keep going. These often exist in elements of uncertainty, change or given constructive criticism that is difficult to accept. Because of my anxiety, I often want to run away. I prefer this to facing the issue at hand or doing what is difficult. Yet, I often regroup and push through doing what is needed. It can be difficult to hear difficult things. Still, it is sometimes necessary to get the point across. This helps make things understood.
When there is uncertainty or change, it can be difficult to accept it. I often act immaturely with those I know well. I do this as a tactic to gain their sympathy. It often does not work and eventually understand that I need to mature and accept what needs to happen. As difficult as it can be to accept things, it is often what is needed to exist. As hard as change and uncertainty can be sometimes, it is what we often need to grow.
As hard as it is for me to exist over the past several years, I have done it. There were many occasions when I had to give in to regression. I sometimes chose paths that were not healthy for me. It takes understanding the value of the things that I need to go and having the want to do them. Anxiety can often play a part in doing what is uncomfortable. Still, I have to push through it. I take my time and do what is needed.
Change and uncertainty are never easy, especially when you are autistic. It takes a lot of determination when it comes to doing things that are not easy for us. But as hard as it can be deep down, it takes others motivating us. They push us through the hard moments, the fear, and the uncertainty. This support helps us do what we need to do to exist in the world. Oftentimes, we have to work harder than the neurotypical population.
If it was up to me I would do what made me happy and comfortable all my life. Sometimes we have to accept things for what they are. It takes warming up to things that at first seem uncomfortable to us. Deep down, we have to push through and show up. Just doing that can take a lot. You will often never see someone as dedicated as an autistic person. This is especially true when it comes to doing things that are expected of us.
