It can be hard when we as autistic people are faced with a change. Many times we want to give up even before we start. It is hard to see the value in doing something if all it does is drive fear in us. We often think about all the worst case scenarios that can happen. But how do we know if we will fail if we do not try? We sometimes have to take the chance that we need to take to overcome our battles that we are facing.

Oftentimes before a big change happens in our lives, we heavily ruminate about it. We want to avoid it. It is impossible to believe that something will work. Deep down, we know we have to believe that we can do it. There has been many things in my life that I have felt uncomfortable doing beforehand. That is my anxiety being what it is.

I have since worked at making it decline when an attack is on the horizon. I know it is my anxiety and not what is going on. The reality is that some things we can’t change. We need to adapt to them. We must do what is necessary to see if they will work out. Sometimes it is hard to imagine doing something. This is especially true if some time has passed since we last did it. We often believe that it is impossible and want to give up before we even have to do it.

Indeed, it takes stepping outside of our comfort zone and doing something that can seem similar, yet different. The reality is that we can do many things. Others know we can do them. Yet, anxiety prevents us from making the necessary changes. Sometimes change is a necessity out of the control of both ourselves and others. The solution can seem impossible. Still, it can be just what is needed to boost yourself out of the slump that you are in. It can also expand yourself out of your comfort zone.

Just because you haven’t been made to do something doesn’t mean it can’t be done. You sometimes just have to have the want to do it. It can be hard to accept the reality of what you must do. Even if you know you can achieve it. The reality is that I have worried at times about things that I have done in a much grander scale. I look back at those things and it provides me with the reassurance I need to do it.

Without a doubt, when change occurs, it can be hard for me to accept. It’s also hard for many other people to accept. It takes bravery. We must work to prove whether something can actually work for you. It can seem impossible in the beginning. But you must fight your fears. At least give it a try to see if it is possible before ruling it out.
