It can be hard to believe that in a few months I’ll be 40.

I’ve been carrying my autism spectrum diagnosis since I’ve been about 13.

Since then there have been many things that people would say that I would never do.

Even being able to live in my family’s house was a challenge and my parents had to make one of the hardest decisions to place me in residential treatment at the age of 15.

Even after being back home some time later just being able to do things that should have come easily was a battle because people had reservations about if I would act out inappropriately.

Then for far too long I was stuck where I felt comfortable not willing to see that some things could prove to be beneficial like a part time job or my own place to call my own.

And even while they had their challenges at first, amid the changes and having to step out of my comfort zone, things got better.

They do get better and I’m in a good place.

Yes there’s still things I want to do.

But today is not tomorrow and in time I will achieve those things but for today I will bask in all that I’ve done to get to where I am today.
