In life, there are things that you are going to commit to. It is important to remember that it is important to do as best as possible to follow through with the commitments you make even as anxiety can get in the way of backing out. It is important to fight through fear and do it. It is likely that you will eventually feel better and will make the best of it.
For me, there have been many times where I have said that I would do things, but anxiety would arise and the desire to back out was intense. There are times when it has happened and when it has not. It can be challenging to other people when anxiety is flared up and all that can be thought of is getting out of something because it seems uncomfortable in the time before because there is not a whole lot of understanding that things are going to be totally fine.
Even though I often know that things are going to be fine, there are also many instances where my anxiety flares up and I am in a stage where all I want to do is flee the situation because when I am in that stage all I can think of is what will go wrong, or the negative mechanics come into play. Even though I know that I must do the right thing and give things a chance, in the moment where anxiety comes into play, all that can be thought about is how to avoid the situation.
Most of what I commit to is familiar and harmless. Yes, there may be some unknowns or fear in the path of the course of something, but in reality, it is nothing that I know I cannot handle given that care for myself in the proper ways beforehand. Knowing that things can be beneficial when do what I need to do to care for myself gives me the assurance that things are going to be fine and the risk of reacting negatively is minimized.
It is important to remember that in all else, if things do become too much for me, that it important to back out of something if I understand and accept the consequences that it involves. It is also important to remember that there are others that may be dependent on my need to be there for a commitment. Therefore, it is important to view the situation with an open mind and understand that the decision to back out could involve more than yourself.
In the end, it is important to remember that what is being experienced by having fear and doubt about doing something is only temporary and that once you fight what fear you have there is a great chance that you will be glad that you did what you needed to do because you are a person of your word and followed through with what you said that you were going to do. It may seem challenging in the moments beforehand, but in the end, you will not understand why you had all that anxiety in the first place.
