Today at day services, we had an employment specialist come and talk about soft skills.

Their key message when making a commitment to starting a new job was to stick to it for a year and “toughen through it.”

I got to thinking about that for a few moments. When I boil it down into my terms, I have been through so much over the years that I just need to stick with the same routine off a test and see how it goes before making any changes.

It can be difficult sometimes when anxiety plays a factor in having to do things that are perceived to be uncomfortable or unfamiliar for us but it’s important to toughen through it.

When you get through something that’s challenging, take some time away from thinking about it and focus on something else that’s enjoyable for you.

In reality it is as bad as you are perceiving?

Is it something that you need to address or may need additional help in doing so?

But in the moments after experiencing something challenging is not the moment to act on something.

Sleep on it and think about it before the next time you do it

Not everything in life is going to be easy.

But it doesn’t have to interfere with everything in your life either.

I was also told that I’m such a great communicator which is hard to believe that I’ve been able to do so much better with in recent years.

I’ve also been handling the bus situation pretty well too. There are still moments where I become frustrated in my own mind but I must start to realize that it’s just my mind working overtime.. it’s getting better. I’ve been on the bus three days in a row this week and I’m pretty calm, so that’s a plus.

I just know with the relapses and everything else that I have been through, I need to toughen it out and be patient to see how everything works out and in a year see what my next steps are going to be.

So if today’s been rough. Take time to relax and enjoy the time you have. You’ll always have until the next time.
