I want to tell you about my experience today.

Work was a good day. I was busy.

My return bus arrived three minutes past the scheduled pickup time.

Once we got to the next destination while waiting for the passenger, the driver explained to me the itinerary.

I was the first picked up and I would be the last one dropped off for the night.

I was perfectly fine with it as there was no pressing need to be home.

As we traveled I was messaging friends on messenger, listening to music and occasionally talking with some of the passengers.

Once all the passengers, including one with a walker and one in a wheelchair that both requires the driver to assist them we’re picked up and taken home, the driver thanked me for being patient and understanding.

Me? Patient? Me? Understanding?

Me, the one who has been writing about patience, understanding and making sacrifices all week?

The one who’s had an anxiety flare up just yesterday?

Me, Yes me.

As the bus arrived at my destination and I departed the bus, I thanked the driver and I think he appreciated that remark.

It just goes to show that by working on things, differences can be made and that we as autistic humans are capable of more than we believe we are.

I’m feeling much better today because I was told about a quality that I thought I struggled with but it’s getting better.

Sometimes it’s the little things.
