I wrote this on my personal Facebook profile on this day in 2015. I was almost completed with community college, getting closer to wanting to live on my own and just had been starting the process to get my driver’s permit. I was beginning to become more social at the time and have done so much since then to become the amazing person that I am today. Sure there has been some setbacks, but I am doing much better today and am looking forward to better days ahead.

Who do you think I am?
I am the one who has been there
Through the ringer and through it all
Sometimes the one that many don’t give a care
And the one that some just think take space on a wall

Who do you think I am?
The one that is looked at while at the store
For all the ways we look different than the average
I don’t want to talk to anyone because I feel poor
And I might feel full of rage.

Who do I think I am?
I’m the one that sits for service in the clinic.
In line at the pharmacy, bus, or rides that ominous van
we may make others around us very skeptic
But I know that one day I will live a proud man.

Who do you think I am?
I am told I can overcome the symptoms and be the one
Make money, have a car, own a house, all to my name
Get an education, interact with others, don’t be afraid of no one
But I got to remember to keep it all sane.

Who do you think I am?
I have overcome, reached for the stars, remembered the past
proved those skeptics and many naysayers that it can be done
For sure I know it will last
What a joy it has been to overcome
And always remember the past.
