Over 7 Weeks ago,  my father had a stroke.

In that time, my mom and when I could, I have been going to see him whether it was at a hospital or nursing home.

Last week, he ended up in the local emergency room. He was admitted to the hospital.

My mother chose to care for him at home, to assure that he gets the care that he needs.

As the burden is lifted off her going back and forth to see him every day, a major change is brought forth, she will now be his caregiver.

As she got word that the things that he needs at home would be delivered, she asked me to come help her move furniture in preparation.

Without hesitation, I did so. I knew that it was a big help.

It has taken me a lot to make be flexible and do things that are unpredictable and unpleasant. I may have let some words slip that were negative.

After she brought me home, I messaged her my apologies.  She said that it meant a lot for me to help.

It also changed my routine for my Monday night group. But thankfully, I called another member, and they were able to get me to and from the meeting.

I knew I needed to go. I was grateful to be able to go. I was proud to be a part of such a supportive group that said anything that I or my mother needed, they would be there for us if they can.

When I got home and after I had dinner, reality started to set in about how much of a change this is going to be for not only my mother, but myself.

I eventually fell asleep, and some time woke up after 11 in the evening.

I knew that I had to at once take my medication. It is the one thing that has changed in me that I must know that must be adhered to after disregarding it for so long, no matter what.

I took it, and you know what? I am up in plenty of time to get things done before heading out this morning.

Amid all the changes going on, medication is the one thing that helps me manage them in the state that I need to and makes it smooth for all involved.

It’s going to be a learning experience for some time, but we will get through it as we do all other things in life.
