It has been a long road that I have traveled in my adulthood. From my host of diagnoses over 25 years ago, transitioning to adulthood, eventually independence and enduring many challenges over the years, I am finally at peace. Now, I must understand and accept that the things that happened initially in my adulthood can change over time, while many things are for the better, there are out of my control that I may not agree with, yet I must understand that I need to have things in my life to be well.

As autistic individuals, we often find comfort in the things that we feel we can have control of. However, at times, we must understand that we along with other things change and we must let go of the way things used to be that had made us feel comfortable and be willing to accept that things and even people do change. Even if our internal thoughts often think that change can be a bad thing because we think that we may not have control over the things that we used to, sometimes we must realize that we need to let go of those things that we think that we can control and focus on the things that we can control.

I am a proven one that people can change. They can grow from who they are and even the mistakes that they have made in the past. They were not given the tools and abilities that they needed to live their lives in the best way possible. When we look at people and things that have a deep relationship within themselves, it can be hard to accept that those things can change just like we did.

Just as I have learned and grown from the experience that I had does not mean that others can too or that it can be done differently than what I feel is what should be done. Just because things were done differently in the past may not mean that they were the best way and by having different perspectives on things and seeing past the negative or historic experiences of mine does not exactly mean that they must always be the way they need to be.

In fact, there were many good things in my life that I could have contributed to in society that are still used years later and that I am still seeking knowledge and expertise. However, having connotations of changes of things or people who reenter my life and have without experiencing how they have changed and that they may be beneficial instead of detrimental to me can go a long way of allowing me to grow from my experiences and see that things can change and I do not have to be the controller behind what I feel I have had a long grasp on.

Sometimes, things can change beyond our control and we cannot think of it being what we want or that we were taken into account, but we do not often not know the story behind it or that judgment or prejudice was taken into account and we do not know to give things a chance to see if things get better and may even be beneficial to a different degree than what was in the past.
