Today for the first time in several years, I attended an after hours social at my day program.

For many years, I was vehemently against spending my Friday night with others even in a place I feel completely safe.

In addition to my mental state being much better, sometimes we have to change things up and even try things that are a little different or we may be apprehensive about.

Today in addition to food and fellowship, we played BINGO. In the past, doing things like this and being a good sport were challenging. I would be irritated, impatient or easily frustrated.

But I did as my fellow members did. I was the lucky guy and even got to get a prize for winning a round.

One thing I understand is that attending tonight was more than winning a game. It was spending a little more time outside of the house in good company in good camaraderie being a good sport and supporting others.

Yes, as I traditionally am, I was burnt out when I got home but it was nothing a small recharge couldn’t fix and I’ve got the whole weekend ahead of me!

On a side note, I received word from another program like ours across the state that their director and their membership really enjoyed my day program ‘s newsletter last month on my setback. It felt good that I’m continuing to be seen as such an inspiration!

In my time. On my way!
