There is often a belief that autistic individuals aren’t empathetic.

Quite to the contrary, many autistic individuals are quite the empaths.

It is just that it is shown differently than what is expected by society.

Sometimes in environments where the energy can be high, it can be too much for an individual.

When there are moments of high energy in an environment by another person, the energy can be felt in an instant.

Many times, in my life, I instantly wanted to react to something, but sometimes this made the environment more challenging.

I had to learn to RESPOND to the situation at hand by NOT REACTING. Instead, I must put my needs before others and take care of my regulatory system.

That may mean that I must walk away from the situation or deploy a coping strategy.

That too may seem inconsiderate, but believe me, it is for the best.

That’s part of this journey of self-discovery. Trial and error. Live and learn.

One day, sometimes one hour at a time.

If the result is a positive outcome and the day is good, that is what matters.

It’s not about being in a clique or trying to solve the problems of the world.

It is living your best life focusing on your needs first and foremost.

There is no selfishness in putting your needs before those of others.

Because you are balancing your energetic empathy the best you can.
