Sometimes in life, there are circumstances that are beyond our own personal control. As much as we would like to take charge of something and make it ours or have a say, sometimes we cannot be provided such an opportunity and have to roll with the punches as they fly.

Being autistic and having other challenges, it can be hard to accept things for what they are or hear something that may be the unpleasant truth that may not be what you think is right or want to hear. It is at times like that I feel as if everyone does not value my side of an argument even though it has no merit and the basis of something happening the way that it has to be as unpleasant as it may be is the cold hard truth and reality that must be borne.

It can be hard to hear things we do not want to hear or that there are issues to something we feel that we are right about. But, we cannot control the feelings or advice of others because it is not our place to do so. We have to accept what is sometimes even if we do not agree with the way it is because we are not bestowed the power to change it, even if we think we may have the answers, we just simply do not.

This is a tough pill to swallow for sure and honestly it can make you feel like crap when you don’t want to cause any strife in your life. Unfortunately, life is never perfect and things are going to happen, sometimes on a whim where you are going to have to adapt, sometimes quickly in order to not overreact negatively to something and make it worse than what it actually is.

If anything the recent pandemic has taught us that there are many unexpected detours in life that we must travel and we must be ready to make a change should the need to do so arise. This can sometimes mean that we have to take the orders of those unknown to us of have to make a sudden change to our plans in the course of the day and while we may want to do what we think we should be able to do, sometimes it just can’t go the way that we plan.

This is where you have to be like the old scouts say and be prepared for whatever situation may arise in the course of your day and have a backup plan in the event that your regular plan should be uprooted, Nowadays, you never know what unexpected event can cross your path and as such being uprooted all of a sudden can be very triggering and cause anger and hostility to an already stressful situation for all involved.

It is important to be sure to practice the ways that you will be able to calm yourself down and redirect yourself should you become triggered by a situation that could be bothersome to you. It is knowing how to disclose and self-advocate for yourself in the proper way and practicing that as often as you can in order to make sure that you do not have any issues that may arise when things go array.

Knowing how to manage your emotions and reactions to the things that make our lives unpleasant as autistic people can help set the path to a successful life with a better outcome anf a better quality of life that everyone around them deserves to have and ride the wave of changes that they are faced with with greater ease by being prepared on how manage themselves properly as there is never a guarantee for things to just go the way that they are planned to occur in life and that “stuff happens” in life and we sometimes have to be more flexible as time progresses.
