Autistic people can be very regimented. They often thrive off a routine to live their daily lives.

Sometimes changing that up and being flexible can be tragic and dangerous. It can cause issues.

Decades ago, when I was a child, I heeded the clock ever so tightly for reassurance.

I would have a meltdown if someone was late. The teacher had to cover the clock with a cloth.

The latter may have been challenging for the other students, but it was one of the things needed to make me learn to be more flexible.

As time progressed and time moved forward, I had to learn to adapt to be flexible to things that just couldn’t happen the way that they were supposed to occur.

This cannot happen to everyone, but for me it made my life a little more livable.

Sometimes it’s just having that reassurance that something is there and is going to happen at some point.

It’s learning to be OK with changing things up and knowing that everything is subject to change or that you can do things differently and that knowing that nothing drastic will happen.

It is refocusing your priorities and being able to be at things that require individuals to be willing to change our routines to be there for others that need us to be there.

Not everything can happen the way that we think it should be or want to happen, we must understand that there needs to be wiggle room or that we have to think about things differently, especially when we know in the end while we may be needed to recharge ourselves, in the end it is worth it.

This is because we show how much we are as warriors to prove to others that we can be there for them and go the extra mile to come to terms with our lives that we can overcome things and be capable of more than we can think of.

Now that I am on the right track, I am seeing a difference in myself and learning to be more flexible with myself.

Because I can change things up, it provides me with such happiness and able to be accepted into a world that is not made for me.

This is me. I am learning and growing and becoming the better person that I deserve to be.
