An 11-year-old autistic boy died late Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle on Montgomery Highway in Dothan.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said 11-year-old Tyler Brown was pronounced dead at 10:58 p.m. Friday in the emergency room at Flowers Hospital. Byrd said police and emergency personnel responded to a pedestrian struck call made around 10:35 p.m. in the 4700 block of Montgomery Highway near the Wal-Mart in north Dothan. The dispatch call indicated the boy was struck by a white Dodge pickup truck.

Byrd said the boy did not live far from where the incident occurred. He apparently left his Flynn Road home, located in a neighborhood behind the Wal-Mart, leading relatives to call 911. He said the child had autism.

“It’s a very sad, tragic situation,” Byrd said.
