The last few years have been hard on me with all the changes and not caring for myself. I have moved into being a middle-aged man. I am beginning to see that I need to let go of the things that no longer serve me. It can sometimes be challenging to learn that we need to let go of old habits. Starting to learn new ones is also hard. Still, we can see that doing things that help us can make life better. This is instead of continuing down the old pointless and destructive path we keep repeating.
I realized what I was doing was pointless and destructive. Others saw that I was not myself. They worried about when I would crash from not taking care of myself. I was not being honest with myself. I know I can no longer do this because being that way serves no one and only hurts myself. I also know that if I need time to care for myself, there is no shame in asking for it. Preventing myself from reaching that point is crucial. It means being proactive in caring for myself. I must recognize that old, pointless, destructive habits no longer serve me. I need to allow the things set in place to work so that I can see things get better.
Letting go of things I thought were okay is challenging. I had led myself to believe they were good for me. Now I see they are not beneficial. Repeating the same actions caused a decline, akin to my peers’ experiences. These actions were the catalyst for situations that required more care. I do not want such things to happen in my life. I understand that independence comes with responsibility. I must not avoid doing what I know works, if I just do it. I had to let go of the fact that I was doing something right when in fact it was not.
I needed to be more prudent in caring for my mental health. It was more important to do that than anything else. Letting go of thoughts that didn’t serve me was crucial. These thoughts led me to believe I didn’t need to do things. I thought they caused things to happen, which was not true. I realized I can have the life I wanted. I needed to let go of the habits and thoughts that no longer served me. They were keeping me from being the person I had the potential to be.
I had to realize that doing the right thing significantly improved my life. It made everything better and manageable. It took away the edges and anxiety that I had. I realized there was merit in being honest and real with myself. By letting go of thoughts and habits that didn’t serve me, I can do what was needed. Being real and honest with myself and others helped me stay true to who I really wanted to be.
