It has been several years since I have been living on my own. Overall, I have been living on my own over eight years and almost six years in the current residence. Through those years, I struggled with many things. I did many things that I was not proud of out of personal belief. I did not know that things had to be what they were for a reason. I am working to accept my life for what it is. It is a different life, not less, but my life to have. I am proving those who lived in fear and concern wrong. I can fight my battles and do what is right once and for all.

It has been a long battle. I have fought it many times for no reason. It led my brain to believe flawed thoughts and invalid truths. I had to learn the hard way that these never proved well without just doing what was needed. I had to start doing what I was supposed to do. I never did that consistently enough. I needed to see that things can be good. I had to be willing to give things a chance and see how they go. I fell down metaphorically many times. I was close to experiencing detrimental things. I needed to straighten myself out and start doing the right thing. I was tired of feeling that way. I wasn’t caring for myself. I began to see that solving things required caring for myself.

Even beyond that there was a part of me that did not want to fail at this living independently thing. There was a reality that living with my parents wasn’t really a healthy way to go. I faced some hurdles while moving out of my first apartment. There were also challenges when I moved into my current one. There were many barriers to what I needed to have to flourish. I inspired many who couldn’t find their way. I showed them I had what it took to live independently. I thrived with only natural support. I did not want to let them, myself or anyone else down for that matter.

It took being real with myself and doing what was right. It was hard in the beginning. I showed that things do get better, even as slow as they happen. It took using more of the knowledge at my fingertips. I needed to make things happen the way they needed to. This helped me see that I was more than capable of living on my own. Despite making pointless and destructive decisions in the past, I realized I was more than those actions. I understood I was more than what I had thought about some things. I knew I needed to do what was necessary and work on bettering myself with the skills I was learning. That way, things would get better. I would prove to the world that I was capable of living on my own. It would have been the best decision I made for myself.
