It has been a long time since I have been in the places that I have been in. I have often allowed myself to be stuck in believing things should be the way they used to be. Sometimes, I think things in the past should have been the way they are now. I understand that things are better now. I need to stop holding on to the idea that things will ever be what they once were. I also need to stop holding on to distaste about things. My brain has been thinking that way for so long.
The reality is that things are assured to be what they are. They are no longer going to change for the future. This is true no matter what my mind wants me to believe. My mind wants to think something, even though I know it is not true or valid anymore. It will never happen again. It is just residue of the past that is starting to slowly go away. I need to let it go because it no longer serves me. It holds me back from living a better life. I now believe that things are good, and I am really doing well.
Those people have seen a different version of me. My brain allows them to think the worst because it was thinking that way. I have allowed myself to take care of myself. I have focused on making my mental health a priority. By doing what needs to be done, things have gotten better for me. I have let things about the past go in many ways, and in real life, I have let them go.
But when my brain has time to wander, it allows me to think about things that have happened. I know these things deep down and want to let them go. It has gotten better since being real about taking care of my mental health. Still, there are moments when I get irritated or am just bored. In those times, I lack the power to focus on what needs my attention. I can get caught up in thoughts that no longer serve me. I don’t realize they must be removed from my mind. I must remind myself that there is so much to live for and changes can happen if I allow them.
I often remind myself that I am in a much better place than I was nearly two years ago. I have made my mental health a priority. I understand that I need to do what is best for me first and foremost. It is not about allowing myself to believe in tricks. In fact, what I have long believed was not meant for me. Even if things had been the way they were, they wouldn’t be the way they are today. The transition to what was years ago was hard but necessary. It is now what will guide us into the future. It has been a good thing for many reasons. I am glad for this change. I know things would have been worse if it had not come to fruition.
In all honesty, it takes me rephrasing the old negative thoughts. I allow myself to believe that I am safe and my needs are met. Everything is going good for me. I can do great things if I allow myself to believe that I can.
