For far too long, I lived in a world where so many people gave into me and my demands. I was unwilling to compromise for others. When time came for me to follow orders, I did not want to comply. I often wanted to call the person out. I would put them down and those around them for things being the way they were ordered to be. I did not see that I had to take responsibility for what was asked of me. There is parts that I have to be responsible for too.
Over the years, I found it easier to pass the blame when I was ordered to do something. Acting immaturely became an easy way to avoid tasks that made me uncomfortable. This often involved doing things that seemed unknown or unusual to me, especially when it aligned with my responsibilities. Sometimes, it can feel like I’ve gotten myself into a situation I shouldn’t be in. Yet, it’s essential to hear the difficult things I need to hear. I must not rush to avoid or run from something due to fear or anger. It seems like someone doesn’t like me, but their actions can be necessary. This means not always giving in to my own needs.
Anxiety can be a big player when it comes to being told things that you don’t want to hear. I have wanted to blame the person giving the orders. Sometimes, I would put them down and call out things unrelated to the issue. The reality is that over the past few years, the paradigm has changed in the places that I exist in. There are expectations and things that have to be met. While there can be some latitude, it does not absolve what is being asked completely. Anxiety plays a role, but those ordering know what must be done can be done. There are already efforts underway to make that easier.
Facing tasks that seem impossible or unwanted can feel overwhelming. You feel like giving in to your first desires. Still, it’s important to recognize your own bravery. By easing into the task and doing what is necessary, you can meet the requirements satisfactorily. It can be hard when you have feelings about the past. You want to give in to being childish and immature by doing what is not beneficial to you. Sometimes it takes just being brave and doing what you need to do. It shows your maturity. Others know that you can be brave and handle what is needed. While it can be hard to accept changes and uncomfortable things, it is beneficial to accept things as they are. This acceptance makes things better in the end. Instead of clinging to the past or trying to impose your will on others, embrace acceptance.
Eventually you realize like I did that everything can’t always be the way that you want it. If you want to make it in this world, you need to accept certain things. There are orders to follow. You will face expectations. Feedback will have to be accepted for what it is. It can be hard at first. However, as time goes on, you get used to it. It gets better as it continues.
