Being autistic, when things bring me down, they can really bring me down. They can send my mind spiraling out of control. I lose grasp of what is real. This happens instead of thinking what I lead myself to be pretty bad things. But I also know that I can bounce back and restore my way of thinking. I can overcome the feelings I have. I can regulate myself back to where I need to be.
Without a doubt being autistic is challenging. We go through so much to do things that our neurotypical peers often take for granted. This can be discouraging. It can hurt us when we are affected by things unexpectedly. These things do not intend to make us feel the way we do. It can hurt when we don’t feel like we are the same or exist in others. We have to make it in our own way to find our way in the world. Being mentally stable can help in this effort. Still, it doesn’t take away the hurt that you feel when you don’t feel like everyone else. It happens even when you are made to be a part of something. It can be the little things. Learning to adapt from something being one way to being a different way can bring me down.
I also know that I can’t let it get to me in the way that it can. Letting things brew up is challenging to accept. I believe I can make others a part of my life. But, I must understand that boundaries are necessary. There is also a different paradigm now compared to what it used to be. It also requires taking steps to be my best, even when my brain resists. Sometimes, I must tackle my issues and feelings instead of attacking. I know I have been through a lot. I have the power to handle difficult things. I can cope with things when I can. This will help things dissipate from what I am feeling at a particular moment. I need to ignore what my mind wants me to focus on.
My brain can focus intensely on what I see as a problem. I often stick with things without realizing there’s so much more to enjoy. This joy can shift my narrative to a better mindset. It’s better than constantly seeing the negative or challenging things in life that bring me down. I am not promoting toxic positivism. Over the years, I have seen no value in bringing myself and those around me down. It is better to focus on things that are good and bring joy to my mind. This helps me let go of things that bring me down or that I can’t control at that moment.
With anything, it can take time to make it all work. It becomes a habit that you can move ahead with. Avoid continuing to make yourself and others feel down. Stop blaming them for everything that you see to be at fault. Yes, things are going to happen and bring you down, but you can’t stay in that place forever. You must know there is so much more than staying in the rut of negativity. Focus on what you have. Consider what you can offer and bring to your life.
