In a world where there is so much at our disposal, it can feel overwhelming. There is so much we want to be a part of. We think we need to say or share something for the good of the order. But I have realized that being a browser carries just as much weight. The same goes for reacting to what is publicly shared in the cyber world. It is meant for us to consume.

Being autistic and having other challenges can make me very vulnerable. I am prone to what is shared in the social media realm for consumption. There is the part of many autistic people to be wanted by others than those we see in real life. The world wide web has provided platforms and such for making our story and business known. But there is also the reality that we don’t need to put everything about us on blast. We shouldn’t overshare details of us to be wanted by others.

There can also be a wish to join a conversation. Still, we don’t always know or understand the context surrounding it. We are often unsure what is real or not real anymore. Having things in recent years being artificially generated doesn’t help very much. It requires doing our own detective work and being educated. We also need to be brave and comfortable with ignoring or doing smaller recognition efforts. This approach helps us navigate what we see out there. That’s OK too.

There is so much to consume on the internet. It can be overwhelming. Sometimes it can be hard to shut down our brain and get the rest that we need. We must allow ourselves to get the rest we need. This way, we can be our best selves in real life. When we are not, everyone can see it. That visibility alone can lead us into bad situations. Sometimes electronics in general can be too much for an individual. They must manage their use to keep it regulated. Other individuals need electronics to regulate themselves when things just get too much and that is also acceptable. It takes finding that perfect balance to make one well and happy.

We must avoid things that cause us to be stressed out. It also involves setting the proper controls. This approach prevents things from happening to us. These are things that set us up for failure or cause us not to be well. I have begun to do this. I understand that it is acceptable to keep scrolling. It is also fine to choose not to have something just because it is there. There is so much to see. The things that bother us are trivial in nature. We can leave them behind. We won’t desperately seek them when we feel a lack of things to keep us busy or regulated.

In the end, you need to develop your own plan of action. Decide how you choose, or choose not, to handle technology and electronics in your life. There is no perfect solution to what that is and whatever you choose is what is best for you. There should never be any ridicule or shame for not doing something because that is what you choose. You in of yourself have the power of doing what you need to do to stay well and content.
