I am in a much better place than I was a year ago. I now know that not being mentally well often makes me prone to taking in too much social media. This habit sends me down a virtual rabbit hole. This is unhealthy and can cause issues that don’t need to be experienced. Doing things the right way can bring many benefits to social media when it is managed in the right way.

I had learned a few important lessons. Sometimes, the things I allowed myself to consume online were taken to heart too much. I let them become parts of my lived experience. This transformation turned into unhealthy delayed echolalia. It was hard to break away from this pattern. I started noticing that many of my scripts came from consuming and getting entertained by certain things. These things energized me. I knew I had to start doing better. I needed to focus my energy in better places.

I knew that there are so many more things that I can do. Far too often, I felt the need to be clamped down to social media. Sometimes, it would overtake me in ways that were inappropriate and unhealthy for me. I had to learn how to avoid being overtaken by it. I also needed to understand that what I had seen wasn’t always the correct way to act. It wasn’t the right way to solve the situations I thought they would resolve. There were many other opportunities for me to take part in. I did not need to entertain myself with things that were tearing me apart.

I knew the ball was in my court to step away from these things. It was necessary. I also knew it wouldn’t be easy. Other experiences had shown it was crucial because they were making my life miserable. Being miserable made me do things that hurt myself and others, even those who didn’t deserve it. I also knew that those same people needed me to be my best. I realized that to be in a healthy mood, I should not allow myself to engage in unhealthy behaviors. Acting out or trying to energize people in those ways was not the way to go about things.

Doing things that caused unhealthy habits takes time. Learning that some things can be done in a healthy way can make all the difference. It took having patience and not being hard on myself when things were done in ways that were unhealthy. I had the power to make healthy choices if I wanted to do them. It was up to me to do them constructively. These choices had to bring a beneficial result to make me feel better about myself. I realized that having healthy social media consumption was important. It allowed me to do what was necessary. That led me to start doing what was right in my life.
