Living independently gives me the opportunity to be a member of the community in which I reside. As such, being able to be educated in the affairs of my community along with the events that may be happening is key in knowing how to support my community and be a productive member of society.

When you live independently and must do things to function in the community, it is important to be cognizant of the affairs of the community as to how they will affect your daily living. It is also important to support your community by giving support in any way that you can to be a contributor to the betterment of your community as you are a resident of it, and it needs to be supported as some things do cost money along with the fact that it makes them aware of you and your situation.

Sometimes it is in your spare time watching the replays of your local council meetings or school board meetings. It may not directly affect your life, but if you are registered to vote and you need to go to vote, you need to educate yourself on the issues more than the literature that is sent to your house. It is important to remember that while it may be one vote, it is better that you educate yourself in the way of what you feel about the issues you are passionate about and that it gives you the opportunity to realize that you do have a voice in the ways that your community moves forward.

It may be mundane at first, but it is important to be patient and take the time to learn how to be cognizant of the issues that matter to you in the community that you reside in, especially if there are matters that affect your ways of living. It may seem small and intimidating to make the moves and you choose to do to get your point across, but it is important to learn how to get out the vote and in those periods that we as individuals chosen to elect to office see what they do to make the government entities better than what they once were.

Also being a cognizant participant of the events of the community that are held and that you feel that you enjoy is just as important it generates revenue for the community and can provide convenience that you may take for granted. These may come in the form of having benches to sit on alone and trash cans in the business district along with things such as expansion on community projects that make your life safer. You park that you visit or things like public transportation are all things that many autistic people use, and it is important to be able to learn and see how the things that are happening are going to affect you in your daily life.

Eventually, you will see progress as time goes by and realize that you are going to make differences in the ways that your life progresses. It may not be your priority now, but as for me when things get settled, it is the way that you can expand your palate and know the world you live in.
